I've got Macbook Pro 13" Mid 2009. When I go to AppStore, it shows Sierra is available, but when I hit the GET and INSTALL button, it gives me an error "This version of macOS 10.12.3 cannot be installed on this computer." So I think I am stuck in 10.9.5 Mavericks. I'm trying to look for either OS X Yosemite 10.10 or OS X El Capitan 10.11, but the Apple Download page only shows either 10.10.1 and 10.11.1

I have a (blank) 128GB thumb drive available. Once I create a bootable back up for my OS X 10.10, will I be able to use the remaining free space for other purposes? Or should I buy an 8GB thumb drive to designate fully as my start up drive?
